Grow The Future
Grow The Future (GTF) is a social enterprise that grows food, cares for land and engages young people in hands-on programs.
The Bega-based start-up was auspiced by South East Producers in April 2023. Funded through the Regional Youth Investment Program by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development, South East Producers was able to support GTF operating as one of its projects for two years.
South East Producers and Grow The Future
In its first two project years, 2023-24, Grow the Future operated as a South East Producers Project. More than 200 young people were engaged over this time, and a two-acre urban farm was developed in Bega – helping to feed our regional community and supporting local resilience.
The core aims of GTF centre around having a positive impact on 12–24-year-olds, local communities and the environment. GTF aims to build confidence, capacity, and a sense of meaningful connection in young people.
Grow the Future produces fresh vegetables, herbs and eggs for sale to the local community through their urban market garden. They grow produce using regenerative practices, with a zero-waste ethos.
We commend GTF for their hard work! Providing hands-on project based engagement opportunities to grow the capacity and sense of meaningful connection among young people in our region is of immense value. Doing so while also teaching sustainable practices around food production and care of the land is phenomenal.
